About Program

India has a prolific history in athletics which dates back to the vedic period. Contemporary versions of track and field events began to be played regularly and in organized form in the early years of Indian independence.

Legends like Sriram Singh, P.T. Usha and Anju Bobby George came close to changing the course of Indian Athletic history. The last decade has seen Indian athletes performing admirably at continental meets and the Commonwealth Games in long distance, throws and jump events. However success in the sprints events is still something the country yearns for.Furthering athletes through access to coaching, foreign training, physiotherapy, mental conditioning and other support services.

GAIL (India) Limited has embarked on a grassroots athletics program GAIL-Indian Speed star which is aimed at unearthing young talent across the length and breadth of India.GAIL-Indian Speed star will identity and nurture talent in track events (100m,200m and 800m) between the age group of 11 to 17 years.

" Talent Identification and Selection will be done through organizing athletics events as well as tracking talent from remote areas/disadvantaged communities."

" Nurturing athletes through access to coaching, foreign training, physiotherapy, mental conditioning and others support services."

" To strengthen the sport of athletics and create a talent pool through which Indian athletics shines brightly at the 2020 Summer Olympics "
